Westec 2001: International Metrology Systems to exhibit shop floor flexible gaging
International Metrology Systems, Inc. (IMS) will showcase shop floor flexible gaging in Booth No. 2149 at the Westec 2001 show at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA, March 26-29, 2001.
Featured will be the complete range of Umpire coordinate measuring machines that represent today's most cost-effective solution for the application of CNC coordinate measuring gages on the shopfloor. In addition, off-line programming of CMMs from CAD data with the unique and revolutionary Virtual DMIS measuring software will be demonstrated as will the transfer of generated programs to the production floor via the DMIS standard. The IMS Simplified User Interface (SUI) that allows production operators to run the Umpire CMM will demonstrate to visitors that CMMs can be used effectively on the shop floor and not just in the quality lab.

Additional software demonstrations on an IMS Impact CMM will include reverse engineering utilizing the Virtual DMIS surfacing module with topographical color mapping and data collection from touch trigger, laser trigger, or point clouds with surfaces IGES file creation and direct comparison with nominal CAD data. Impact is a family of traditional high-speed, high-accuracy, cost-effective CMMs that combine Virtual DMIS measuring software to provide CAD-based metrology at an optimized price/performance ratio.
Finally, IMS will discuss its ability to retrofit Virtual DMIS to any installed brand of manual or DCC CMM which allows mature CMM frames to have an extended life with new CAD functionality and improved productivity.
