Taylor-Hobson Forms Metrology Education Partnership

Taylor Hobson (Leicester, UK) and Loughborough University (Leicestershire, UK) have formed a partnership to promote metrology education and establish a closer working relationship in metrology research.

The company will be sponsoring metrology "modules" in the university's Manufacturing Engineering Degree courses that examine issues of alignment metrology, surface roughness, form, and out-of-roundness assessment. The manufacturing engineering degree program is part of the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. In addition, the company is endorsing a postgraduate short course in surface roughness and form measurement.

"Taylor Hobson is always keen to forge new partnerships with universities such as Loughborough. They promote metrology at all levels of their degree courses and in doing so, encourage the engineers of tomorrow to value metrology as an integral part of the production process," noted Julian Shaw, director of sales at Taylor Hobson. "This partnership is a great way to collaborate and we expect it to develop over the years."

According to Jon Petzing, a lecturer in metrology at Loughborough University, "Taylor Hobson is a world leader in surface metrology and I am keen to promote British industry to our engineering undergraduates. Our university is at the forefront of innovative metrology research, and working with industrial partners is a critical factor in allowing us to maintain and improve measurement technology and knowledge."

Taylor Hobson is a manufacturer of dimensional, surface finish and form, and roundness metrology solutions.
