Software for Programming CMMs

Source: Sitius Automation
Designed to perform offline programming of CMMs directly
Sitius Automation perform offline programming of CMMs directly from a CAD model, Sitius Part Programming (SPP) is a vertical application that operates on top of a CAD system. The tool's CMM programmer creates an inspection database by choosing objects to be inspected, then specifies the inspection hits, CMM attributes, tolerances, and sensors. The inspection database that's created is posted for a particular CMM in native machine language or in DMIS format. Measured results can be printed at the CMM or imported into the CAD system for analysis.

This software can be used in applications where the same part is inspected in large volume, to generate a program before the part is manufactured, to run the program on different CMMs, to create long programs, and for SPC.

Other features include extensive reporting capabilities as well as picture maps that can facilitate reading text reports from the CMM. The software doesn't run programs or interpret results.

Benefits include the ability to create a CMM program without having to specify geometric dimensioning and tolerancing; easier management of complex programs; simulation of the inspection process; the ability to make changes at any stage; quick application of engineering changes; support of inch, metric, and non-standard units; the ability to convert programs between different units; support of indexed and star probes; and support of inspection program titles and text notes. In addition, the inspection database can be stored with the CAD model and the GD&T data also is part of the inspection database.
