What is SCEPTRE SYSTEM?

EMD's Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) sensor technology, known as SCEPTRE System, consists of a patented continuous-contact 3D analog scanning probe, continuous noncontact (vision) scanning probe, computer controller and proprietary software. EMD's continuous-contact analog scanning is the most sophisticated and accurate measuring technology in the world, and can be found on a variety of CMMs used to measure and inspect parts for such companies as IBM, General Motors, Boeing, Hewlett-Packard, AlliedSignal, General Electric Aircraft, TRW, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Analog scanning allows a CMM to inspect and measure complex shapes and contoured surfaces, gathering thousands of data points in seconds. This provides the operator with much more information, much faster and more accurately, than a CMM equipped with a digital probe could ever hope to gather in a cost-effective manner.

In addition, the SCEPTRE System scanning software provides analysis, evaluation and graphically rich reporting. It can handle high data-density input -- up to 300 data points per second -- in all six axes. It allows a CMM to perform reverse engineering, inspect and digitize free-form and unknown shapes, and seamlessly combine contact and noncontact (vision) data. It will interface with IGES, DMIS and CAD/CAM programs, and can manipulate up to 32,000 data points per element. It also features a number of cost-efficient, dedicated part-inspection packages for airfoils, gears, and cams.

Founded in 1986, Budd Lake, New Jersey-based Electronic Measuring Devices, Inc., is a leading designer and supplier of coordinate measuring systems and high accuracy probing technology and software for coordinate measuring machines currently utilized by commercial industries and government agencies.
