Renishaw Inc.act, easy-mount configuration, the RGR Rotary Ring encoder delivers speeds of more than 2,000 rpm, resolution to 0.2 arc-seconds, and slip-on installation with shopfloor-proven non-contact readheads. The design saves space and cost by adapting key technologies from the company's advanced non-contact linear optical encoders to 360-ft rotary capability.

The encoder couples miniature non-contact RG2 readheads with low profile (10 x 10 mm cross-section) stainless steel rings wrapped around the periphery with the firm's 20 µm scale. The fully integrated encoders come in 3-, 4-, 6-, and 8-in. (75, 100, 150, and 200 mm) diameters and can be fitted with any of the firm's RG2 series readheads (RGH22, RGH24, or RGH25).

Engineered for use on both solid and hollow shafts, these integrated encoder systems avoid the mounting, coupling, and fit problems with bulkier encoder units. The mini readheads and low-profile ring minimize intrusion for tight fits, while a patented, tapered mounting system simplifies even the most challenging installations. Quick setup is ensured because of the unit's broad installation tolerances and LED confirmation.

The rings come with a pre-counted number of lines; repeatable reference marks are optional. The rotary encoders are available with digital or analog incremental output.

Applications in machines include massive multi-axis machine tools with travels of 30 m and more.
