One of several new products unveiled at Quality Expo, the Surfanalyzer 5600 is a Windows-based surface analysis system that gives shopfloor and lab users a tool that can be used in restricted space.

The system offers more than 50 profile, roughness, and waviness parameters as well as analysis capabilities for a broad range of surface measurement applications. Analysis features include zoom magnification, crown drop, TIR, and segment analysis.

Consolidated into a small footprint package that includes a controller, printer, and PC, the product's Windows operating system boosts the unit's flexibility and allows networked communications such as printer sharing. The unit offers improved touchscreen technology, algorithms, and proven accuracy of earlier versions. In addition, advanced features give users the ability to produce work faster, with less scrap and rework.

Built-in metrology software takes the user through setup, workpiece leveling, measuring, and post-measurement tasks. It also processes and saves data, which permits re-examination without re-measuring.

The 4-in. linear drive delivers full measurement capability for skid and skidless operation, adjustable traverse lengths, and a precise reference bar. The probe employs a patented breakaway stylus tip design, which are easily replaced and can be shielded in production environments.

Other features include a Pentium processor, color monitor, and high-speed thermal printer; an external laser printer is available.
