ROMER Inc. is proud to introduce the PowerProbe, ROMER's unique touch trigger scanning probe that sets a new benchmark in probe accuracy and repeatability. The first of its kind in the world, the PowerProbe improves repeatability between portable CMM operators working on the same task by nearly 40 percent.

The three-ounce device, which plugs into ROMER portable CMM arms without the need for calibration, is force-sensitive and eliminates the variability of a portable CMM operator's touch pressure. The probe is activated by touching it to a surface where it automatically takes a stream of data points for use in inspection and reverse-engineering programs. It includes a built-in light for visibility in hard-to-see areas.

"It is the probe of choice for high-accuracy applications demanding high repeatability," said Steve Ilmrud, ROMER's vice president of operations.

He said the probe far exceeds the capabilities of other probes on the market today, and is able to handle scanning tasks other probes cannot do. "Because of its less than 15 grams activation force, it is great for measuring thin-walled sheet metal, fabrics, and foams," Ilmrud said.

Normally, a non-contact probe is used to measure such materials because they deform under pressure, providing inaccurate data. The new PowerProbe will be able to measure many materials a normal touch probe could not.

ROMER manufactures articulating arm portable coordinate measuring machines for inspecting or reverse engineering of fixtures, assemblies or manufactured parts. For more information please call 800-218-7125, check our web site at www.romer.com or e-mail us at sales@romer.com.
