Portable Roughness/Waviness Measurement System

Mahr Federal Inc.thometer S2 portable surface measurement system is said to offer the highest mobile measurement accuracy of roughness/waviness profile depth under the most recent standards (DIN, EN, ISO 3274, JIS and ASME B46). Statistical functions for 200 measurements are included, along with 10 parameters for every measurement program.

The shop-hardened tool features an integral battery pack that weighs 6.5-lb (3 kg). In addition, 100 measurements can be executed in a single charge, and it can be mounted directly to the machine tool for dedicated high-volume inspection. An RS232 is provided for electronic data collection or process control.

The device incorporates all the parameters and characteristic curves, as well as the profile band pass filter described in the latest ISO surface texture standards. There are 41 different parameters for surface texture including the full set R_k class for the automotive industry. In addition, a new arc elimination function (ARC) is designed to simplify precision measurement of curved surfaces, such as ball bearings and races, shaft, and bore holes.

The tool can be ship with a choice of four interchangeable drive units: PZK, PGK, PRK, and the new PGK120. The system is equipped with a slot for PC:MCIA memory cards and can be customized with a wide assortment of probes and drive units. It automatically monitors itself for calibration and maintenance intervals.

The system features 10 keys to call up different menus, a large high-resolution backlit graphics display, and 13 user-selectable languages. It also features tolerance monitoring, autosetting of stand DIN filters and tracing lengths, automatic part contacting, non-contact measurement, English/Metric units, and password protection.
