Able to reach distances up to 60 ft, the Solo portable coordinate measuring machine works like a traditional CMM to measure large objects. Suitable for 2D and 3D functions, the instrument can maneuver over and around objects.

Packed in a lightweight, yet rugged enclosure, the unit is an electro-optical system that doesn't use encoders or other mechanical parts. It uses spherical and cylindrical stylii (the firm's Light Pen, a handheld probe with embedded light sources) and the built-in sensor to take measurements. The sensor has a 32° x 40° field of view, which corresponds to a 14 m/46 ft width at the maximum range of 20 m/65 ft. The CMM can measure large objects without the error propagation of multiple leap-frog setups.

Other features include interchangeable stylii in various sizes and shapes for measuring areas outside the direct line of sight, smart probes for measuring sheet metal and edges of composites, and a Windows interface.
