LK MSI Calibration lab gains ISO/IEC 17025 quality accreditation

Brighton, MI—Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufacturer LK Metrology Systems, Inc. (LK MSI) was recently granted ISO/IEC 17025 certification for its calibration laboratory. This achievement enhances LK's commitment to providing the highest quality products and services to its customers.

The purpose of ISO/IEC 17025 is to provide testing and calibration laboratories with a common standard. QS-9000 requires that calibration laboratories that certify pieces of equipment to the standards established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) must be ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. ISO/IEC 17025 replaces ISO Guide 25. LK MSI received its accreditation from Laboratory Accreditation Bureau, (L.A.B.), a Detroit-based independent laboratory accreditation body.

To meet ISO/IEC 17025 standards, LK MSI worked with the Eagle Group consulting firm (Troy, Mich.) to develop a comprehensive laboratory management system. LK MSI faced the challenge of implementing the ISO standards while simultaneously maintaining the quality and volume of work in process. Over an eight-month period, LK MSI worked aggressively to fulfill all 247 requirements or "shall statements" stipulated by ISO/IEC 17025. To assure uniformity across its entire service organization, LK MSI distributed a standards manual and an ISO/IEC 17025 orientation video to all of its field service personnel.
