Materials and structural testing equipment provider Instron Corporation (Canton, MA) has announced that it will be setting up a wholly-owned subsidiary company in India. To be called Instron India PVT Ltd., this new operation will provide service, application expertise, sales, and training for the firm's increasing customer base in India.

The subsidiary is slated to be open for business early next year. The main office will be located in Chennai; subsidiary offices will be set up throughout India's major cities.

Instron has maintained a successful partnership for more than 35 years with Toshbro, Chemito, and the Toshniwal group of companies. Through this partnership, the firm has been able to deliver high-quality service as well as application experience and expertise. In fact, the company recently signed a four-year strategic cooperative agreement with its Indian partners to transfer some of their employees to Instron's new operation, which will enable continued flow of information and dialogue. The purpose is to ensure a smooth transition of business from Toshbro to Instron while maintaining the high quality of customer support and attention. Many customers will continue to deal with people who are familiar to them either in a sales, service, or support role.

The company also plans to beef up computerization, mobile communications, product training, and office databases, all to improve response times to customer calls and inquiries.

Instron Corporation, 100 Royall St., Canton, MA 02120-1089 USA. Tel: 781-575-5000. Fax: 781-575-5750.
