Able to perform parts inspection measurements while running at vector speeds up to 40 in./sec, the Microstar HS coordinate measuring machine incorporates linear motors and mechanical bearings into the gantry design using a dual-beam bridge. The gantry structure is built on a granite base for increased stability. This technology is said to let the machine operate efficiently without sacrificing accuracy or repeatability.
Specifications include 30 x 40 x 25 in. travel (X-Y-Z), 0.00004 in. resolution (0.00002 in. optional), 0.000160.0002 in. (speed related) repeatability, acceleration to 0.8 g, and linear accuracy of 0.0002 in.+0.000007 in./in.
Non-contact steel scales are mounted onto steel members for proper thermal conditions, and bearing ratios on straight, square construction are said to ensure intrinsic mechanical accuracy. The machine ways, bearings, scales, and motors are enclosed and protected from harsh conditions.
