LK Metrology Systems, Inc.providing sub-micron accuracy with 20 millionths of an inch repeatability, the Ultra CMM is a compact machine that is said to cost less to operate and maintain than comparable high-accuracy units. It can be used in gage labs for R&D or to calibrate master gages. A typical application is certifying measurements of shopfloor CMMs used on an automotive cylinder head or block line. The smallest work envelope is 40 x 40 x 32 in.
The device uses traditional CMM technologies including the firm's standard controller and Camio software. Design improvements such as larger air bearing ratios and beam cross sections (which allow tighter control of machine axes) help the Ultra provide high precision functionality. Also, the Y and Z beams, or ways, are made from ceramic for greater thermal stability.
The CMM was engineered with new drive control techniques and the machine "tuning" for vibration control, so it can be used with the newest Renishaw TP200 probing system.
