Lake Mary, Fla. - March 4, 2004 - FARO Technologies, Inc., fortified its position as the market-share leader in the portable coordinate measurement machine (CMM) field with its release of CAM2 Measure 4.0.

This release, the first of its kind for CAM2 in more than a year, features 250 enhancements over previous versions, among them being a new user interface that shares a common look and feel with the FARO Gage Software.

"We've invested significant time and resources to make CAM2 4.0 the most user-friendly inspection and measurement software on the market," FARO President & CEO Simon Raab said.

The most noteworthy new features are:

  • Probe calibration has been enhanced for improved accuracy and data acquisition control.
  • New Measurement commands include Torus, Torus Segment, Rectangular Toroid and Extruded Rectangle.
  • The Tubing functionality enables users to measure bends of 180 degree or greater on both round and rectangular tubes.
  • Cross-Section Measuring now automatically compares a stream of data to the CAD surface.
  • FARO Laser Tracker measurements can have greater angular repeatability in a variety of positions, and the data can now be copied and pasted into tertiary programs, such as Microsoft Excel and Notepad.
  • In addition to numerical reports, CAM2 4.0 features easy-to-read, color-coded bars indicating if parts are within tolerances.

"These were the changes that not only our customers asked for," said FARO Software Product Manager Kenneth Steffey, "but were also a result of our entire CAM2 team challenging themselves to make great software even better."

CAM2 Measure 4.0 has been translated and released in eight different languages to support FARO's worldwide customer base.
