Faro extends relationship with DaimlerChrysler; automaker buys 150th CAM2 software license
DaimlerChrysler is using Faro's CAM2 measurement software in R&D, process planning, models and mock-ups, building of fixtures and manufacturing in foundry, prototyping, control, and verification tasks. Specifically, the automaker employs these CAM2 modules:
- CAM2 Analyzer for viewing and analyzing large CAD files
- CAM2 Execute for monitoring quality directly on the shop floor
- CAM2 Automotive for measuring surfaces and assemblies on automobiles
- CAM2 SPC Process for statistical process control and analysis
"Our goal was to build a central database that would house all measurement and quality control data in real-time. A major requirement that was met by Faro CAM2 software was its accessibility from any factory PC and by any personnel on the shop floor," stated Heiko Riehl, an engineer responsible for quality control at DaimlerChrysler's Rastatt (Germany) facility.
Jayke Simon, Faro's worldwide director of business development said, "This purchase is a direct reflection of our commitment to work with the DaimlerChrysler Corporation by continually enhancing our products to meet its current and future CAM2 (Computer-Aided Manufacturing Measurement) needs. We foresee our five-year corporate relationship becoming even stronger as we continue to install our technology throughout DaimlerChrysler Corporation worldwide."
Faro's CAM2 family of advanced CAD-based measurement and reporting software give manufacturers the ability to measure production parts or complex assemblies on the shop floor. They are used to help boost productivity and enhance product quality by bringing about results such as reduced rework and scrap within the manufacturing process. Here's a brief rundown of the modules that DaimlerChrysler employs in its facilities.
CAM2 Analyzer displays CAD files anywhere on a standard laptop or PC. Its intuitive, Windows-based platform is easy for non-CAD users to navigate. Other features include the ability to open multiple CAD files to create virtual assemblies, develop cross-sectional profiles, and automatically display file changes. Users can quickly identify modified design files on the factory floor.
Designed to monitor quality directly on the shop floor, CAM2 Execute is used to program measurement routines for the FaroArm articulating arm as well as manual CMMs. It lets users create guided measurement routines that take users through any part or assembly inspection.
CAM2 Automotive lets users open and render 100 MB CAD files in 20 seconds. It makes it easy to perform CAD-to-part comparisons, allowing them to instantly recognize whether a part, fixture, or assembly is in tolerance. It also helps speed inspection with its feature measurement list function.
CAM2 SPC Process delivers transparent, real-time data gathering. It displays data, then prints reports or outputs the data to other programs. Users can configure custom analysis reports of process data for a variety of user groups. The module connects easily to other measurement systems and software.
Faro Technologies designs, develops and markets CAM2 systems and services for manufacturers of automotive, aerospace, industrial, and consumer products worldwide.
