EMD's Indexable Stylus Changer
Of course, ANY CMM can be easily outfitted with the Indexable Stylus Changing System as long as it is upgraded to the Sceptre System's constant contact scanning capability, which includes Software, Controller, and Analog Probe.
What makes this Stylus Changer unique is that permanently built into the probe head receiver is a circular row of 72 precision spheres. A highly repeatable Kelvin coupling (kinematic locator) seats itself against 3 spheres on the stylus changer.
Normal CMM styli with M4 threads are available on this adapter. The adapter head has 17 receiving locations for styli, which are oriented in all the 5 primary axial directions available: -Z, +/-X, and +/-Y, with 4 more styli receiving locations for each elevation angles of the the following elevation angles: -22.5°, -45°, and -67.5°. Coupled with the azimuth ability to index the whole cluster every 5 degrees, there is adequate access flexibility.
Repeatability of the kinematic locator is specified as +/- 0.5 µm (20 microinch). The repeatability of the angular location of the adapter is specified as +/- 2 arc-seconds.
