eM-Gauge
Accurately Communicates Tolerancing Information
eM-Gauge helps design engineers improve the quality of the design process by reducing costly tolerancing errors up front, before they are locked into a design and passed onto manufacturing.
eM-Gauge is used to verify that the dimensional requirements specified for a manufactured part accurately reflect the designer's intent and conform to various national and international standards (ANSI Y14.5 and ISO standards).
Validates Dimensioning and Tolerancing
eM-Gauge verifies that your dimensions are complete, consistent and in accordance with design standards.
Reinforces Training
eM-Gauge reinforces GD&T training with descriptive on-screen messages explaining dimensioning and tolerancing errors. This real-time error checking makes eM-Gauge perfect for use as an on-line tutorial for effective and efficient dimensioning and tolerancing.
Supports Master Model
EM-Gauge is fully embedded within major CAD/CAM systems and uses the CAD user interface and database. All eMPower/ Quality information is generated and stored within the original CAD part model eliminating the need for translations and duplication of product data. Also EM-Gauge allows you to use CAD features and tolerances in UG and Catia and soon will be within Pro/E and Ideas.
Eliminates the need for Drawings
eM-Gauge supports a "No Drafting - No Dimensioning" option, which enables you to define dimensional requirements (component and assembly tolerance zones) without any of the typical detailing, drafting or drawings in your CAD model. Imagine! No more drawings - just a nominal CAD model and electronically defined tolerance zones.
Easy to Learn and Use
eM-Gauge uses the CAD system's user interface. This CAD "look & feel" makes eM-Gauge very easy to learn and use. Within 2-3 days of training, you are a competent user. eM-Gauge also contains a floating license which encourages widespread, cost effective use.
Creates 3 Dimensional Tolerance Zones (Softgauges)
Softgauges are precise 3 dimensional computer models of the tolerances specified for a manufactured part. These electronically defined tolerance zones are stored within the master CAD model and ensure that component and assembly dimensional requirements are clearly and correctly defined. Prior to the creation of a Softgauge, eM-Gauge verifies the dimensioning, and checks the associated nominal CAD geometry against the inner and outer tolerance bands.
eM-Gauge reduces the number of expensive design reviews and costly engineering design changes generated on the shop floor by minimizing design errors due to incorrect dimensioning and tolerancing.
Concurrent Engineering Tool
Component and assembly tolerances defined with EM-Gauge are used by engineering for 3D tolerance stack-up analysis (w/ eM-TolMate) and by manufacturing for the identification of critical features and analysis of inspection results (w/ eM-Probe-CAD).
By promoting a productive dialogue between design and manufacturing, eMPower/ Quality products further improve overall quality and efficiency.
Typical Applications
- Designer must quickly check drawings.
- Tolerancing on engineering drawings needs to be checked against company and national standards quickly and efficiently.
- Designer to specify key characteristics.
- Designer uses Softgauges to specify the critical dimensional characteristics of a component or assembly.
- Solid model created with no drafting.
- Want to use solid models but do not want to spend time detailing them (applying drafting). Use the softgauges to document the tolerances.
- Designer needs to visualize tolerances.
- Softgauges used to visually communicate different tolerancing possibilities to design team.
