Bal-Tec, Inc.ll bar kit meets requirements for performance evaluation of CMMs per ANSI B89.4.1-1197. A CMM artifact, the device consists of two ultra-precise spheres of the same diameter that are attached to opposite ends of a long rigid bar. Repositioning the gage several times allows evaluation of possible errors.
When used as an interim check, it can confirm proper performance of the complete CMM. Measuring the two ball bars will uncover any major malfunction of the machine, in as few as four positions.
The kit contains two standard ball bars mounted above and below on a special clamping bracket. The bracket is fixed to a 14-in. high stand. The two ball bars have a sphere center-to-center length of 300 and 600 mm.
Larger versions are available with a 24- or 36-in. high stand and ball bars up to 1 meter long.
