DMIS 5.2 / I++DME Training Workshop, December 6-9, 2010

A DMIS Training Workshop is scheduled for the week of December 6-9, 2010 which will include the new DMIS 5.2 Standard, as well as the I++ DME Specification.

DMIS 5.2 is now an ISO as well as ANSI Standard.

This DMIS 5.2 / I++ DME Workshop uses an innovative approach to teaching and demonstrating how DMIS works with I++DME and other commercial software to achieve an integrated framework.

The Workshop will focus on the programming and implementation of the Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard (DMIS 5.2) with an introduction to the I++DME specification. However, other DMIS-based software products will also be running to provide examples and comparisons.

DMIS is the most widely used metrology inspection standard in the world, and many software products are based on the DMIS Standard. However, if you know and understand the DMIS programming language, all of these products become more understandable, applicable and easier to use.

This Training Workshop will incorporate the most recent ANSI and ISO approved DMIS Standard Version 5.2, which also contains multi-axis capabilities such as the Revo.

This DMIS Workshop is scheduled for the Brighton, Michigan facility of Nikon Metrology (formerly Metris USA). The hands-on Workshop is designed for CMM Technicians / Programmers, Metrology Specialists, and Quality Engineers who need to better understand measurement programming, and the role of standards in the interoperability and the ever-changing world of dimensional metrology.

The Workshop will begin 1:00 PM Monday, and conclude at noon Thursday (24 class hours), and will include, but not be limited to, the following topics.

  • Coordinate Measuring Machines - Reducibility
  • Introduction to DMIS - Sensors
  • DMIS 5.2 and I++ - Measurement
  • Text based Programs - Alignments
  • Program Structure - Construction
  • Configuration - Tolerancing
  • Features - Output

You may now bring your own laptop with your own company software. This allows you to see how the code works with YOUR company's software. Following the structure of our last several workshops, we will have several DMIS-based software products running.

We will also offer the UCC-Server software, and class participants can load it and watch CAMIO (or their own I++ compatible software) actually run DMIS, and see the I++DME happening at the same time. That is, when you run DMIS, it is converted to I++ control commands before the controller sees it.

WWith this setup, one can observe the background I++ that occurs based on the currently running DMIS program. It is also possible to view side-by-side comparisons of the DMIS to the background I++.

All class sessions will be held at the Nikon Metrology (formerly Metris USA) facility, located at 12701 Grand River Road, Brighton, Michigan.

The class sessions are scheduled as follows:

  • Monday, December 6, 2010: 1:00 PM- 5:00 PM
  • Tuesday, December 7, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Lunch provided)
  • Wednesday, December 8, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Lunch provided)
  • Thursday, December 9, 8:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

The Registration Fee for the DMIS / I++DME Training Workshop is $1,395 per person. Registrations for groups of two or more from the same company qualify for discounts. The registration fees include all Workshop sessions, luncheons and refreshment breaks during the Workshop, and a complimentary CD of the DMIS 5.2 Standard (regular price $265).

[If you would also like a paper hardcopy of the DMIS Standard to use during your class work, we must order it to be printed at least two weeks before the class starts. Please add $170 to your registration fee (half-price of normal hardcopy), and indicate in the "Comments" box on the registration form that you wish to also order a hardcopy of the standard.]

Hotel accommodations and other meals are not included in the registration fees. Please click "Contact Us" to send an e-mail if you have any questions.

To register for this Workshop via credit card, click the following link for secure online Registration.

The registration fee may also be paid by funds transfer (click Contact Us for Info), or by check sent to the address below.

Please allow time for postal mail to arrive before the cut-off date, and notify us via e-mail that you are paying by check by clicking Contact Us above. Remit to:

Cancellation Policy: You should register in advance (now) for this class to assure your reservation. All registration fees must be paid before the cut-off date of Friday, November 26 2010.

Full refunds will be issued, less a $150 cancellation fee, if written cancellation requests are received prior to the cut-off date.

Because of financial obligations incurred by that time, no refunds can be issued on cancellation requests after the cut-off dates. However, you may continue to register right up until the Friday before the Workshop starts on Monday. Purchases of the DMIS Standard hardcopy are not refundable

Remember to register as early as possible. Because of the equipment and facilities required for this Workshop, seating is limited. We need to know the number of attendees well in advance in order that Nikon Metrology (Metris USA) can prepare for the expected group size. This is especially true for handouts and other materials provided, computer access, refreshments, and lunches.

The current Training Workshops are designed for "Beginner-to-Intermediate" programmers. We are planning to establish an "Intermediate-to-Advanced" Workshop depending upon the level of interest. If you or your colleagues have an interest in a more Advanced Workshop (such as an emphasis on multi-axis -- Revo training), please state your opinion in the "comments box" on the Registration form page. We would value your input whether or not you are registering for this particular class!

This is your opportunity to learn the DMIS 5.2 Standard as well as to understand the new I++DME specification with "hands-on" experience.
