Renishaw Inc.form high-speed scanning of part models and quick production of NC machining code, the Cyclone Digitizing System can digitize external and internal part features such as connecting rods and cylinder head ports. The device is designed to provide in-house production of freeform shapes without the need for a copy mill and without using a CNC machine tool during the digitizing process.
The 3-axis probe captures 2D profiles and 3D point data at speeds up to 118 ipm. It can generate a one-to-one NC program from a 2-in. sphere where the toolparth is within 0.002 in. of the sphere's true shape. The work envelope is 23 x 19 x 15 in. (X-Y-Z) and holds models up to 500 lbs.
Built around a dedicated PC-driven scanning station, the digitizer produces an on-screen wireframe graphic from one scan and generates the NC code in a user-configurable format. Models can be manipulated for mirroring, scaling, rotation, translation, and inversion using the company's Windows-based Tracecut software.
