Advanced Brown & Sharpe Xact Technology Debuts as an Enabler to Quindos Software
Brown and Sharpe has announced the release of XACT QUINDOS measurement and inspection software.
XACT QUINDOS combines the versatile QUINDOS software with elements of Brown & Sharpe's powerful new XACT technology. It is the first in a series of software releases that will combine XACT technology with existing Brown & Sharpe software programs.
"We understand that users have an investment in their existing inspection software programs, in both dollars and training. The addition of advanced technology features to their existing program will let QUINDOS users make an easy transition to the new technology," said Fred Schütter, President and General Manager of Brown & Sharpe, Wetzlar, Germany. Brown & Sharpe Wetzlar is the original developer of QUINDOS software.
XACT QUINDOS is designed to work effortlessly with most CAD systems to facilitate the inspection process and provide an advanced level of manufacturing process control. The first release of XACT QUINDOS includes an advanced CAD interface that allows users to download CAD files for use in constructing part programs and document the dimensions of parts using CAD geometry. The software also offers three choices of program simulation--full machine, probe head or probe sphere--to verify the part program. XACT QUINDOS runs in the NT operating system, making it fully PC compatible and Y2K compliant.
"XACT technology is the foundation for continuing advances in Brown & Sharpe measurement and inspection software," said Chris Garcia, Vice President of Software Development at Brown & Sharpe. According the Garcia, future releases of XACT QUINDOS will employ a "master model" access capability allowing CAD models to be used "as is" without being translated when they are downloaded to the measuring system. This direct download capability assures that no dimensional detail is lost during the transfer, and provides real time model access, ensuring that dimensional data is retrieved from the most recent design of the part.
XACT QUINDOS builds upon the power of QUINDOS, one of the most comprehensive measurement programs available for prismatic and special shape inspection applications. Modules for the measurement of parts such as gears and airfoil shapes make XACT QUINDOS a flexible, yet customizable, software program. XACT QUINDOS includes Feature Based Measurement routines that can reduce overall inspection time by as much as 80 percent. A selectable operator interface makes it easy to use, regardless of operator skill level.
