Providence, RI - Mahr Federal has introduced an innovative new Digimar 817 CLM Height Measuring Instrument with three distinct ways to initiate measurement. In addition to normal keypad initiation, a Quick Mode feature allows the measurement cycle to be initiated by simply pushing the carriage in the direction of the object to be measured. Also, two Speed Keys on the base allow the operator to comfortably move the measuring carriage to the desired position and start a measurement. Combined with an easy-to-program Teach-In Mode, these features can greatly reduce inspection time for a mini series consisting of only a few test pieces.

But the new Digimar 817 CLM offers a great deal more. An air bearing system facilitates smooth movement for positioning. An optical incremental measuring system with a double reader head is insensitive to dirt, ensuring accuracy and reliability. A dynamic probing system provides high repeatability, and a stainless steel guide column with precision ball bearings precisely tracks the measuring head. The system also provides temperature compensation with an integrated temperature sensor, and includes an integrated, rechargeable battery to provide a long operating time span.

The operating unit on the Digimar 817 CLM can be positioned freely with a swivel arm, and features a large back-lit graphic LCD display and clearly defined function keys. Operation is easy, with self-explanatory ISO standard icons, operator prompts, and menus in several different languages. The Digimar 817 CLM is available in three column heights with measuring ranges of 14 in. (350 mm), 24 in. (600 mm), and 40 in. (1000 mm).

The Digimar 817 CLM offers a wide range of measurement functions in both 1 D or optional 2 D, including dynamic measurement functions with analog display such as Max, Min and Max/Min. Automatic perpendicularity and straightness measurements can be performed with appropriate accessories, and data can be printed via a USB-connected printer, saved on integrated USB memory, or output for additional processing via an RS232-interface. Additional measuring instruments can also be connected with an Opto-RS232-interface.

The Teach-In Mode can be used to quickly design and store up to 40 measuring programs in either 1 D or 2 D. Additional programs can be stored separately on a PC. To program, the operator simply measures a workpiece once and saves the sequence. When initiated, the motorized carriage will travel to the measuring position, and the sequence will proceed automatically.

Optional 2 D functions available on the Digimar 817 CLM include determining an index circle, the distance and angle between two or three elements, and coordinate transformation. Statistical evaluations include: statistical evaluation of individual features; histograms; process control charts; pareto diagrams; creation of production and inspection schedules; and evaluations based on stored data.
