New facility brings wide range of solutions – in technologies and training – for greater manufacturing precision

Chicago-based Renishaw Inc., is holding it's first open house at the new U.S. headquarters on Wednesday, April 25 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for visitors to the QEI Show. Packed with advanced technology solutions for quality control and manufacturing precision, the architecturally striking building is conveniently located in Hoffman Estates, IL, just off I-90, about 20 miles west of O'Hare International Airport and the Donald Stephens Convention Center.

Renishaw plc, the parent company in the U.K., created the new headquarters to serve rapid growth in developing technologies for higher productivity and manufacturing precision, said Leo Somerville, President of Renishaw Inc. "Building on Renishaw's position as inventor of the touch-trigger probe and global leader of metrology products, Renishaw is extending it's reputation for precision into the fields of motion control and materials analysis, offering a wide range of new encoder products and Raman spectroscopic microscopes", Somerville stated.

"We're seeing strong demand on all fronts, as manufacturers demand tighter tolerances, shorter process times, lower costs, and better utilization of skilled labor," he added.

"We provide the industry's widest range of solutions to 'making it right the first time,' which is a hot issue in the globally competitive economy."

Nearly triple the size of their previous headquarters in Schaumburg, IL, Renishaw's new 40,000 sq. ft. building is a steel and glass two-story structure featuring black terrazzo stone flooring, wood paneled walls, and a two-story glass curtain wall facing a wooded courtyard. "The building conveys a sense of precision and elegance without unnecessary expense, making it a good metaphor for Renishaw's product development philosophy," Somerville added. The Calibration Laboratory is located at the core of the building and fitted with large windows to encourage people to look in. "Visually and functionally, the Calibration Lab demonstrates that precision is at the heart of our business and our technologies," he said.

align=left border=0>Renishaw's new home offers significantly upgraded facilities for customer training and parts fulfillment. Both classroom and lab facilities for customer training have been greatly expanded. "Two growth factors are working here," he noted. "More people are coming to us for basic metrology training, plus there's strong demand for advanced training, which tends to be longer and more intensive, keeping our training facilities fully utilized."

The new hands-on training lab is a high bay space outfitted with advanced CNC machining centers, CMMs (coordinate measuring machine), calibration systems and Renishaw's own Cyclone – a high-speed digitizing machine.

A highly automated warehouse at one end of the new facility features powered carrousels that bring parts bins to the operator to speed order fulfillment.
